The Beatles filmed by the Maysles brothers in 1964: a must for all lovers of literature unformatted ...
This DVD edition book for posterity the story of legendary Maysles brothers on the Beatles first tour of USA, which enabled them to finally break the U.S. market, on the occasion of the release of their second album With the Beatles soon followed by the third A Hard Day's Night . What is unique about this document by 81 minutes and 21 seconds is a very authentic and not premeditated, a kind of photograph that captures the lively scent of an era sadly gone.
fruitful life hazards ... You should know that the original one was supposed to film the journey of the Beatles New York. It is indeed February 7, 1964 following an unexpected phone call from England from Granada Television that Albert Maysles decided to go crash at JFK airport in New York flanked by his brother, researcher like him to film this group knows it yet or Eve to Adam. The Beatles in the crowd generally accept without problem to host the two men so they can make their stories freely, handheld camera. This kind of thing would be quite impossible these days! The 4 boys in the wind are filmed in his live, doing the schoolboys in their hotel room awaiting a conference surreal press in Central Park. Then they go to the show of Ed Sullivan for four tracks ( All My Loving, Till There Was You , She Loves You, I Want to Hold Your Hand ) in the general hysteria of the audience that night.

Ringo Star loves strike while the iron is hot ... |
followed by a memorable scene redolent carefree atmosphere of the mid-60s: here are the four musicians just customers Peppermint Lounge club immersed in the middle of anonymous dancers mini-skirt "twistent" like crazy and soon joined by Ringo Starr unleashed. It is clearly seen during the frenzied dance, the drummer ended up having a playful touch with one of the dancers excited to sex appeal eloquent. The creature ends up a few minutes later sitting on the legs of the blessed in heaven ... An attitude which contrasts sharply with that of the group's leader, John Lennon who totally withdraw and surprisingly quiet obviously wondered what he was doing there. It is indeed touching to see these four boys at the time of their lives when their career took a decisive turn, their popularity is enormous, but they are still really affected. They are already somewhat the legendary Beatles but somewhere, even young adults willing to do anything reckless, and ignorant of their fabulous destiny. Those around them or just meet in this film could they imagine that this quartet still a beginner would happen in the coming months some of the finest songs in rock history and pop? And we, the viewers know that today, one can not help but have a heavy heart on seeing the young John Lennon sometimes very strangely pensive smile but often as concerned about the future ... But back to the chronology of the film. We thus find the group, following this eventful evening, ready for his performance at the concert at the Coliseum in Washington on a central stage that looks like a boxing ring surrounded by the public and they will play three songs ( I Saw Her standing There , I want to be your man , She Loves You). During the remainder of their stay will involve two other benefits to the Ed Sullivan show , one in a luxury hotel in Miami for three songs ( From Me To You , This Boy, All My Loving ) the other back in New York for the last three songs (Twist and shout , Please Please Me, I want to Hold Your Hand ) . The documentary ends with the group's departure and his triumphal arrival at the airport London.

With the Beatles (1963) (Click photo to enlarge) |
To finish this column it is worth noting that the bold Maysles brothers had originally not allowed to film the benefit of Beatles in concert, and have not been able to turn, except that in the Coliseum where they managed to infiltrate almost clandestinely to capture the public despite all three titles but under random techniques. It was only much later that Ed Sullivan allow them to insert into their document the full benefits of Beatles from her TV show with a sound and a very correct picture for the time. ; A second documentary of 51 minutes and 13 seconds is now on DVD, mounted from the falls that were not used during initial assembly in 1964. Some of these new images brings a different perception of hysteria priori unanimous that took place among the fans: you can see including two particularly beautiful girls who seem distressed by the behavior of their peers and answered questions Maysles a surprisingly modern. They leave a shine indifference to the real phenomenon Beatles and even claim they could do as well as themselves by appointing Beatle-ettes ! One of them even raises an ironic question to that in the process of interviewing, " What a great force behind you? "Foreshadowing undoubtedly fears that will show future generations about the media manipulators the Big Brother generated by who knows what dark powers.
